Welcome to August 2023!

It’s August and you know what that means – CORN! Chilliwack is the corn capital of the world – I don’t want to hear a word out of you, Mitchell, South Dakota because we brought it and you were served so the title is ours now – so this month it’s all about that wonderfully tasty treat We have a massive field across from our home that works as a baffle to keep out all kinds of noise from everything but our tiny little street, so it’s a quiet haven until at least mid-October. This means everything from seafood boils to elotes to BBQ (the proper kind with smoked meat) to regular ol’ boiled cobs with loads of butter and salt! Yum!

I had some great news in early July: There’s still no signs of cancer! I have one more follow up in late September, but there’s been no sign of anything abnormal since the operation last October, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a few months longer.

I’m super excited to share my last three giant e-books with you on combining emollients. Part one was 141 pages and part two was 161 pages, so combined with this latest e-book for July, this series has been a colossal 445 pages! I’ve had such a great time writing them – it was hard to figure out where to stop.

I’m spending the 2nd and 3rd taking this awesome course online from the Society of Cosmetic Chemists, Fundamentals of biosurfactants, bio-based surfactants, and biopolymers: Overview, properties, and formulation design. This is the ninth course I’ve attended through SCC, and a follow up to the first one I attended, Fundamentals of surfactants, emulsions, and polymers for cosmetic formulations. I’m so excited about this course, and I’ll share what I learn with you here on the site and in my e-books!

What can you expect this month?

I actually have a plan! I have formulas to share for our new cold process emulsifier, SEPILIFE NUDE, that should be out this week.

And I have new formulas to go with our series on Lumorol K5229…

In part one, we met a new ingredient, LUMOROL K 5229 (INCI: MIPA-Laureth Sulfate, Laureth-4, Propylene Glycol) and learned what it does.

In part two, we looked at the two main ingredients LUMOROL K 5229 – MIPA-laureth sulfate and laureth-4 – and how they work to create these awesome super emollient products!

Experiments in the workshop: Making foaming shower oils with Lumorol K 5229 (INCI: MIPA-Laureth Sulfate, Laureth-4, Propylene Glycol)

I’ve also fallen behind on the monthly Q&A – so sorry! – so those will be a priority this month. You all just ask such great questions, I fall down rabbit holes researching them or trying new things in the workshops, and before I know it, it’s a month later!

I’m also getting ready for the cold process emulsifiers series that should start mid-to-late September, if everything goes well. I hope to have a shopping list for mid-August so you can play along. I have information on suppliers in Canada, the US, and Australia, so I can share links to make it easier for those countries.

And there’ll be more – just not quite sure which posts are ready yet. Gathering photos and videos and processing all of those things along with the writing gets a bit onerous, but Raymond’s been on a photo spree, so we have tons of posts that are finally ready!

As we do every month on the site…

If you’re in need of supplies, $10 subscribers to the month have three discount coupons this month for Lotioncrafter, Windy Point Soap Making Supplies, and  Voyageur Soap & Candle. Thank you for this lovely gift out of the goodness of your hearts, lovely suppliers!

They’ll be updated as we receive them. If you don’t see them today, please check back tomorrow or the next day, they will be there eventually. It’s August and people are on holiday.

If you’re a $3 subscriber or higher, click here to see the duplication request post!

Please note that requests for duplication are only considered if they’re posted in the duplication section as this is part of the $3 and up subscribers benefits and not if they’re emailed, direct messaged, or suggested in comments on social media. I cannot possibly re-create every single formula suggested as this blog would be nothing but duplicated products — and how boring would that be? – so I can only choose a few a year to create. I go into detail about my process for choosing formulas in both the duplication request post and in this post. Thank you for continuing to share them in that post. I have been getting loads of ideas from it the last few months, and there will be more to come soon, I hope.

And don’t forget that you have access to the formula directory! The formula directory is constantly being updated to include even more formulas from around the blog, so if you’re looking for a formula, you’ll find it in the formula directory! (That word has lost all meaning now…)

Also check out the latest addition to the monthly posts – Ingredient substitution ideas post ($3 and up)! Id you have an ingredient you’re trying to find or need help substituting for in a formula, please share your thoughts over there!

If you’re a $5 subscriber or higher, click here to see the month’s Q&A post! I check this post every day, and it’s my priority to answer your questions or help with your formulas – it’s the best way to get in touch with me and guarantee an answer!

Right now, this is the only way I can answer questions or analyze formulas because I have such limited time, so please make that your first stop if you have something you simply have to know! 😁

I’m sorry I’m a bit behind with the Q&A. As you can see, there’s been a lot going on. It’s my first priority this month!

And don’t forget about the monthly Super happy fun member-to-member post for August 2023!, which is available to all levels of subscriptions. It’s more important than ever that we connect with other people during this ongoing pandemic, so please feel free to share your thoughts on this post or others on the blog!

You can always find the links to these monthly posts in the pinned post section, which is found to the right of just about every page on the blog on desktop and most mobile, or the bottom of every page for the odd mobile device. Or do a search for “Q&A” or “duplication” to find them. I’m afraid I don’t have time to do searches for you if you write to me as I’m swamped and my arms and hands are still in minor spasm, so doing one of those two things will find you those posts very quickly.

Thanks for joining us for the month of August! What are your plans this month? What products intrigue you? Which new ingredients are you eager to try? Did you get any wonderful packages with loads of supplies lately? Share your thoughts in the comments!
